2015 Mid-Year Check-In

Hello, hello, Happy Monday ;) How was your weekend? I meant to do a lot of cleaning since we have a friend arriving this coming Friday, but of course that didn't happen. Instead I did a lot of fun me-stuff. The highlight of my weekend was that I had my first volunteer shift with Found Animals,  at one of their adoption/retail locations. My first shift was a training session with their on-site kitten foster program. Apparently it's "kitten season" right now so there are tons of kittens that need taking care of so they can eventually get up to "adoption-ready" status. And then I got home and couldn't believe how enormous my own cat is! I decided to do a mid-year check-in of the goals I set for myself this year. I enjoy doing a mid-year check-in so I can remember what I've done so far and what I need to "work" (or rather, focus) on. If you recall my 2015 Goals, (I sure don't so I doubt you do; here's the link to that blog post ),...

{Goals} What to do in 2015

I drafted a long blog post about my 2015 goals and let it sit, unpublished, for a couple weeks. I thought about it almost every day wondering if I should publish it or not. I never really understood the necessity or desirability of goal setting until recently, probably the last 2-3 years. I've noticed that writing them out (either in a notebook or in a blog post) helps make them "real" and not just a bunch of "that would be nice to do" thoughts. So I knew I wanted to write about setting goals, I just wasn't sure if the goals I set were the "right" ones to make. In 2014 I set myself 8 sewing goals . I didn't accomplish all of them, but I came pretty close. I never finished a button-up shirt for my husband (I only made a muslin, which still needs to be fitted) and I never got around to picking a coat pattern. Even though I didn't finish all 8 sewing projects, I'm glad I set them because I made some stuff I'm pretty sure I would ha...

Goodbye 2013, Hello 2014!

woah woah, where did the year go? I can't believe my last post was in October. I have so many drafts of completed garments to blog about, but I've struggled with getting photos of them (I'm fully aware it's a super lame excuse). I've realized the past couple months that without blogging about my sewing adventures I feel like I haven't accomplished anything. But as I look back at my 2013 posts and the unblogged items, I did accomplish a considerable amount for me. A definite improvement over the previous years. Here is a not-so brief recap, very text heavy, more like a brain vomit. Sorry. Not sorry. I'm most proud about the Minoru Jacket , which has to be my favorite item that I have sewn to date. I'm somewhat happy with the Robson Trench coat , but not entirely so because I like the fabric less and less every time I see it in my closet. I bought new fabric at Mood (before Thanksgiving!) that I intend on sewing into an even shorter Robson Trench (2014 g...
