{Photos} Kitty Love

My brother has two cats that are brother and sister. I took some photos of them when they were itty bitty rambunctious kitties . I saw these two cats recently and boy have they grown in the past year! The multi-colored cat is so shy now, while her brother is still very energetic (and quite the chatty cat!). My heart definitely started to melt when I saw them grooming each other: I'm not gonna lie and say getting this shot was easy-peasy. I definitely ran into difficulty getting the lighting right and the cats in focus (damn those cats for moving!). When I see my brother's cats being this affectionate with each other I get a little sad for Bailey that he's in a one-cat household. When we adopted Bailey the shelter told us his sister was adopted the previous day. I wonder where she is and if she's as crazy (bipolar?) as Bailey. Earlier in the day we had some fun walking the black cat around the backyard. I'm really anxious to try this with Bailey because I h

FIDM FTW

I've been dying to stop by the FIDM Scholarship Store for months ever since I read somewhere that they sell fabric for cheaps. I tried going a month or two ago after work, but got there maybe 10 minutes after they closed. This failed adventure could have been avoided if I wasn't too lazy to PICK UP THE PHONE earlier in the day to confirm the store hours (FYI, it closes at 5pm on weekdays). Even though I work in Downtown LA, the store is located just far enough from my office that the thought of walking there and back during lunch always seemed so tiring. But the stars aligned last Friday! My coworkers and I walked to three different lunch spots in a quest to find someplace (any place) that wasn't incredibly crowded. When we got to the third location I realized we were only one block from the FIDM scholarship store. I bid adieu to the guys and decided to forgo a tasty lunch and instead went searching for some scrumptious cheap fabric. I wasn't sure what to expect

{Finished Object} Sewaholic Robson Coat

The Sewaholic Robson Coat took so long to make! And this post is going to be so long! You can skip to the very end of the post if you're only interested in the details. First of all, I spent so much time searching for fabric. I spent many many hours browsing fabric online trying to determine which type of fabric would be best for this coat: cotton, twill, fine line twill, poplin, rayon poly, poly cotton, cotton nylon blend, etc. Confused? Yeah, me too. I finally bought a dark purple cotton twill from Fabric.com . I considered getting a swatch first, but I was too inpatient. Besides, at under $6/yard, I figured if I didn't love the fabric, then it could at least be a wearable muslin.  The fabric is definitely lightweight; I can even do lunges while wearing the coat! My dad and I are available to coordinate your photo shoot. I promise there won't be a dull moment! I also decided to make sure I spent as much time as possible on this coat by photocopying all the patter

{Finished Object} - Polka Dot Simplicity Skirt

Simplicity 2698 skirt pattern is gradually becoming a favorite of mine and I don't even normally like wearing skirts. That front center seam just kills me..... I have the fit down and this time I barely even looked at the construction instructions. Actually, I didn't look at the Simplicity instructions at all and only peeked at the Sewaholic Cresent Skirt instructions when it got time to attach the zipper to the waistband facing. I wrote down some notes on the instructions sheet the last time I made a skirt and it was such a time saver since I knew exactly what I was talking about (don't you love it when you can read your own notes months later??). This was my first time making version E. I think I never made it before because the skirt front consists of two pieces with a seam down the center and I never wanted a center front seam. But since I dislike version J so much (too much of a tulip shape, not enough drape) and I was too lazy to make version I (ugh, those
